I visit my mother's side of the family in Alexandria as often as I can but not as much as I would like since I'm consumed by studies and the hustle and bustle of the city of Port Elizabeth. However, the last time I visited them was last week Sunday, where I made a pit stop before carrying on driving a further 5 minutes to my uncle's house I made a pit stop outside a small cafe called The Shack.

The cafe was aimed to the tourists who land from Port Elizabeth and drive to visit the coastal small towns on the N2 such as Grahamstown, Kenton-on-Sea and Port Alfred but it's open to everyone. They serve your typical Xhosa and Afrikaans South African meals from Umngqusho (samp and beans), to Botterkorsie soup to Pap with chicken feet and gizzards to Melktert and Koeksister to name a third of their menu.
I went for their pap and chicken feet meal mainly because I have never had chicken gizzards in my life, which is a sad fact about me, because many Xhosa people rave and pride themselves about loving chicken gizzards amongst other delicacies we, as the Xhosa people, indulge in.
The chicken feet, or walkie-talkies as majority South Africans refer to them, were sweet chilli basted but complement the slightly bland taste of pap! I would recommend you give this place a try, it's opposite a gas station just before you reach the police station of Alexandria.
